Crowns & Bridges
Crowns & Bridges
Crowns and bridges are custom-fitted tooth restorations, that are used to restore damaged or missing teeth. Single Crowns are fixed over the surfaces of the natural tooth structure or dental implant. Bridges (Fused Crowns) are also used to fill in the gaps left by missing teeth, by the pontic, and are anchored in place by the natural teeth or nearest crowns to the empty space. Single crowns and bridges are non-removable and must be permanently cemented in place by a licensed dentist. Patients who opt to get a crown or bridge to restore their smile achieves both the qualities of functionality and the appearance of natural, healthy teeth.
Frequently asked questions
Is a single crown or bridge right for me?
If you have a damaged or decayed tooth that’s still intact, a dental crown may be the right option for you. Although If your tooth is missing, but its former position is by other tooth structures, a bridge may be the best solution for you. Schedule a consultation with our office to determine whether you could benefit from a crown or bridge restoration. What should I expect when I have my crown or bridge placed?
If you are a possible candidate for a crown or bridge, your teeth will be reduced to ensure a proper fitting. An impression will then be taken of your teeth and sent to fabricate a mold for the single crown or bridge. If you decide to choose porcelain prosthesis, we can do a custom shade in the office to match the natural shade of your other teeth. If a local dental lab is designing your crown or bridge, you may be fitted with a temporary restoration until the permanent one comes in and is ready for us to place. Do I need to follow any post-treatment care guidelines?
Yes, your teeth will need time to heal following the crown and bridge placement. It is normal for you to experience some sensitivity – especially to hot and cold temperatures. You may also experience some soreness in the gums surrounding your restorations. This is usually manageable with over the counter pain medication for example ibuprofen or tylenol and should subside within a couple of days.
