Tooth Colored Fillings
Tooth Colored-Fillings
Resin-Composite fillings – also known as (tooth-colored fillings) are dental restorations designed to be natural in and virtually unnoticeable. They blend well with your natural teeth and appear more natural than amalgam (silver) fillings, which are darker and more easily seen by other people. Resin-Composite fillings are made of ceramic and plastic compounds that chemically bond to your teeth. They can be used to fill in decayed areas of your teeth, as well as to help repair slightly chipped or broken teeth.
Resin-Composite fillings allow Dr. Nguyen to preserve more of your natural tooth structure. Composite materials chemically bond to the surface of the tooth like an adhesive, allowing Dr. Nguyen to leave more of your natural tooth intact while performing the remaining restoration. This process takes slightly longer to complete than traditional amalgam fillings, but it typically preserves more of the natural portion of your teeth. The result is a beautiful natural looking restoration that will be durable and functional, if properly cared for by keeping up with your good oral hygiene at home.
frequently asked questions
Am I a candidate for tooth-colored fillings?
If you have a broken tooth, cavity, or a deteriorated filling, you may be a perfect candidate for a tooth-colored filling. Schedule your examination with Dr. Nguyen today to determine if they are right for you. What should I expect if my dentist decides a composite filling is right for me?
During your visit, your teeth and gums will be anesthetized with a local anesthetic near the site of the restoration. Once the area of the tooth is numb, the decayed portion of your tooth will be cleaned out to make room for the new tooth-colored filling. A tooth-colored resin will be placed over the area and cured with a hand-held UV light for less than a minute. The new filling restoration will then be shaped and polished before the procedure is completed. What type of post-treatment care is required after getting a composite filling?
Resin-Composite fillings are cured with a UV light at your dentist’s office. You should be able to return to you normal activities immediately after your visit. You will be able to eat and brush as you would normally. It is a normal process for teeth with recent fillings to experience some light sensitivity to hot and cold in the days following the treatment. This should subside in about a weeks time. If you experience this sensitivity for more than a week, please don’t hesitate to call our office to schedule a follow up visit with Dr. Nguyen.
